Information We Collect

- Profile Information: Member since date and user statistics
- Content: Your votes, comments, and debate participation
- Usage Data: How you interact with debates and features
- Optional Profile Information: Year of birth, gender, and country (all optional)
Optional Profile Information
You can optionally tell us your year of birth, gender, and country. These fields are entirely optional, are never required to use the app, and can be changed or left blank at any time from Settings.
This information is not shown to other users. It never appears on your profile, next to your votes, or next to your comments. We do not sell it, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
We collect it so that, in the future, we can show aggregated breakdowns of how different groups voted on a debate — for example, how a country voted as a whole. Any such breakdown will only ever show group totals, never an individual's answers or votes.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain our service
- Create and manage your account
- Display your participation in debates
- Calculate participation statistics
- Send you notifications about debates
- Improve our service and user experience
Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Firebase services:
- Authentication data is encrypted and managed by Firebase Auth
- User data and content are stored in Cloud Firestore
- We implement industry-standard security measures
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Your data is only shared:
- With other users: Your username, votes, and comments are visible to other users as part of the debate experience
- With service providers: Firebase and other essential services that help us operate the app
Your optional profile information (year of birth, gender, country) is never shared with other users, advertisers, or data brokers.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal information
- Update or correct your information
- Delete your account and associated data
- Opt-out of notifications
- Request a copy of your data
Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile settings. When you delete your account:
- Your account and personal information will be permanently deleted
- Your comments and votes may remain anonymized in debates
- This action cannot be undone
Children's Privacy
OneTopic is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date.
